Will the second time be a charm for new Mediterranean-style restaurant?

Passing by the former Grapevine restaurant on Foothill in La Verne, you’ll notice a temporary sign saying, “Coming Soon, ‘The Patio,’ Restaurant and Lounge.”

How soon?

Owner Gary, who was overseeing renovation on Friday, March 18, said he expected to open “early-to-mid June.”

As for the food, Gary, who also owns restaurants in Long Beach and Chino Hills, said it would be Mediterranean style.

When LaVerneOnline tactfully noted that the Grapevine also served Mediterranean cuisine and is now out of business, the new owner wasn’t fazed.

“The owner didn’t know how to make it work,” Gary said.

“Why La Verne,” we asked?

“I like the location,” he said. “I bought the building, I bought the property.”

One thing is for sure, The Patio is going to have a new roof in the main Victorian structure. Several other repairs and enhancements are going to be made, as well, but the new owner wasn’t specific.

“What’s going to get people to stop here once you’ve opened,” we asked, promising that our query would be our last.

“Once they try the food, they are going to come back,” Gary said.

Until then, its shssssh on the shish kabob. As LVO learns more, we’ll pass it along!
