Sowing Seeds for Life Hams it Up for the Holidays

There are only a few real things you can bet on in life. To death and taxes, please add the Sowing Seeds for Life food pantry on the first and third Wednesday of every month when like clockwork, the local food bank on Arrow Hwy. in La Verne dispenses groceries and consumables to hundreds of families in need.

At the March 17 Pantry, which happened to fall on St. Patrick’s Day and also the last pantry distribution day before Easter, Sowing Seeds pulled out all the stops, handing out hams and turkeys and other treats to spice up the holidays. You didn’t have to be Irish or even religious; you just needed to be a family in need.

Many families also had their pictures taken for free in an outside studio set up in the parking lot of DPI labs, a La Verne aerospace company whose CEO Vicki Brown heads up Sowing Seeds for Life.

Avoiding the bureaucratic run-arounds and phone tag common when applying for special assistance programs, many families also were able to apply right on the spot for food stamp benefits and other social services programs for which they are eligible.

“It is part of the Sowing Seeds for Life philosophy to expedite the help and assistance that people need so they can get back on their feet economically sooner rather than later,” said Brown.
