Former Girls’ Softball Treasurer Pleads No Contest to Embezzlement

Christine Lopez, 38, of Pomona, the former La Verne Girls Softball Association treasurer accused of stealing $55,000 from the nonprofit organization, pleaded no contest to embezzlement on Friday, Nov. 13, the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin reported.

As part of the plea arrangement, Lopez is expected to serve 30 days in county jail and spend three years on probation, in addition to performing 120 days of community service and paying $20,000 in restitution, officials say.

Lopez paid $10,000 to the court on Friday. It was unclear why Lopez was not ordered to make full restitution of the embezzled money, as Deputy District Attorney Duke Chau declined comment.

Official sentencing will take place on Nov. 20.
