After winning the top honors at the 2009 Regional Choral Festival in San Diego, Calif., the Bonita High School Chamber Singers and Concert Choir will represent the Western region and compete in the elite Heritage National Invitational Festival of Gold Competition to be held in Chicago in March 2010. This will be the first time that Bonita High School’s award-winning choirs will compete in the National Festival, the nation’s most prestigious choral competition.

Both the Chamber Singers and Concert Choir are preparing music for their performances in Chicago, as well as raising funds for the trip through a variety of programs.

“The Heritage Festival of Gold is the premier choral competition in the country,” said Todd Helm, Director. “After having been invited for many years, I am very excited that the Bonita Chamber Singers and Concert Choir will be attending this year in the great city of Chicago. We are all very excited about participating in this prestigious event.”

Todd Helm, director of the Chamber Singers and Concert Choir, was named 2009 Teacher of the Year and is currently celebrating his 25th year in teaching.

Before their Winter trip, the groups will perform in a Fall concert on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009 and in a Holiday concert on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009. Both concerts will occur at La Verne’s Church of the Brethren. The Chamber Singers will also perform at various community events in December in La Verne and San Dimas.

The Bonita High School Chamber Singers are an elite group of singers who have traveled the country and won top prizes in numerous competitions. Entry to the group is by audition and typically consists of between 24 and 28 members. The Bonita High School Concert Choir consists of about 60 members and has been lauded in many competitions.

Heritage Festivals provides a national program that was developed by music educators and educational tour professionals to help choirs, bands and orchestras achieve standards of excellence in music performance.
